Costa Mesa is a major commercial and industrial center of Orange County. The
City, which formally adopted the slogan "The City of the Arts" in late 1984, is
home to a regional symphony orchestra and the South Coast Repertory Theater.
Ground was broken in 1983 for the Orange County Performing Arts Center. This
center includes a 3,000 seat facility which was completed in 1985, and a 1,000
seat auditorium slated for future development. In 2001, it was completely
remodeled to accommodate much more capacity audiences for the beautiful
theatrical, and musical performances. Also, located in Costa Mesa, is the
spacious and largest shopping Mall in all of Orange County - South Coast Plaza. There are many
restaurants, theatre attractions within that South Coast shopping Mall area off the 405
Bristol exit. Costa Mesa is central to all of Orange County, and is only a few
minutes from the John Wayne airport.

Los Angeles, Costa Mesa encompasses a total of 16 square miles with its
southernmost border only four miles from the Pacific Ocean. The current
population is approximately 104,000. Costa Mesa is the home of Orange
Coast College and Vanguard University. The Orange County Performing Arts
Center, Orange County Fairgrounds, South Coast Repertory Theatre, and
South Coast Plaza (the County's most successful regional shopping mall)
are prominent centers of cultural and economic activity within the City.
