Yorba Linda
Yorba
Linda is famous for being the birthplace of Richard Nixon. There's a bike trail
that goes right past his birthplace and the Nixon Library. The proximity
of horses always generates lots of white fences, which makes for pretty scenery,
especially where there's irrigation to keep the flora green.
The City of Yorba Linda is to be congratulated on creating these wonderful
right-of-ways for recreation, exercise, and transportation. If you want to
travel by horse or bicycle, there are paths to get just about anyplace you want
to go.
This bike path is unique, in that it does not go along a river or around a lake
or pond -- in fact, except for a narrow irrigation ditch near Imperial Highway,
there's almost no water at all. There is, however, a longstanding farming
tradition; you'll see goats, chickens, horses, and orchards along the route.
(There's apparently a railroad tradition too.) In other words, you really feel
you've gotten away from it all when you travel this bike path.
City
Hall
Since its incorporation in 1967, the City of Yorba Linda has strived to provide
the highest quality public services for the lowest possible cost. Today, the
city and its government are model institutions, the envy of Orange County.
Richard M. Nixon Library & Birthplace
The jewel in Yorba Linda's crown is the Richard M. Nixon Presidential Library
and Birthplace. Visitors from all over the world come to see the place where
America's 37th President was born as well as his grave site. Tours of the museum
and library are conducted daily.
Schools
Parents in the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District are rightfully
proud of the seven elementary and three middle schools in Yorba Linda. Nearly
every year, Yorba Linda students place near the top of Orange County schools in
standardized academic achievement tests.
Youth
Sports
The number of Yorba Linda children participating each year in organized youth
sports is astounding: 2,164 in Little League baseball, 686 in girl's softball,
272 in Pop Warner football, 3,493 in soccer, and 1,138 in junior basketball. The
City's Parks & Recreation Department maintains 135 acres of sports fields and
30,000 square feet of gymnasium space for these activities.
Equestrian
The love of horses and the City's commitment to equestrian activities helps set
Yorba Linda apart from other communities. In addition to the 100 miles of
maintained horse trails, the City has also built three state-of-the-art
equestrian arenas. The nearby Chino Hills State Park also affords residents the
chance to ride in unspoiled wilderness.
Housing
Yorba Linda is probably best known as a residential community of single-family
homes on large lots. There are currently some 19,221 housing units in Yorba
Linda with prices ranging from $200,000 to over $1,000,000
Historic
Main Street
The City's historic roots have been preserved in Old Town Main Street. This area
boasts boutique retail and services and acts as a focal point for many community
activities. The weekly Farmer's Market and annual programs such as the Arts,
Crafts, & Antiques Festival and Old Fashion Christmas in Old Towne draw
residents and visitors alike.
Shopping & Retail
Most of the shopping and retail activity in Yorba Linda occurs in small,
neighborhood centers. Large retail stores are found at the nearby Brea Mall.
Recently, the City began working on its own regional shopping center, the Savi
Ranch Center, which now includes Home Depot, Best Buy, and other stores.
Susanna
Bixby Bryant Ranch and Museum
The historic Susanna Bixby Bryant Ranch serves as the site for the Yorba Linda
Heritage Museum. Here visitors can glimpse some of Yorba Linda's unique
heritage. Each room depicts a different period or aspect of the area's history,
from Indian times to the first settlement by the Yorba family, and into the
modern age. The grounds are planted in California native plants, and a small
replica of the original botanic garden is located on the east side.
